Dr. Yair Levy is a Professor of IS and Cybersecurity and the Director of the Center for Information Protection, Education, and Research (CIPhER) Information Protection, Education, and Research (CIPhER). Dr. Levy chairs the Cybersecurity Curriculum Committee at the college overseeing the Ph.D. program in Cybersecurity Management, MS in Cybersecurity Management (InfoSec Policy Development and Compliance), and MS in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity (Network Security Engineering) – DHS/NSA certified programs as part of NSU’s designation of National Security agency (NSA)'s National Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Cyber Defense Education (CDE). Prior to joining the school, Dr. Levy was instructor and director of online learning at the College of Business Administration at Florida International University, where he earned his Ph.D. in 2003. His current research interests include cybersecurity, social engineering, cybersecurity skills, competencies, awareness, and cyber threat mitigation. Dr. Levy is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, he published invited book chapters and encyclopedias. His research publications have been cited by over 4200 peer-reviewed manuscripts.
Dr. Levy serves on leadership roles for various scholarly and educational associations. He is a founding member of the International Institute for Applied Knowledge Management (IIAKM), from which he was recognized as a ‘Fellow and Distinguished Scholar‘ in 2013, as well as the Recipient of ‘Lifetime Academic Achievement Award’ from IIAKM in 2014. Since August 2015, he is serving as the President and Executive Director of IIAKM. He is an IEEE Senior Member, and a member of the IEEE Cybersecurity Initiative. In 2015, he was elected President of the AIS’s Special Interest Group on Information Security and Privacy (SIGSEC). Also, Dr. Levy has been serving as a member of conference proceedings committee for numerous scholarly conferences. Moreover, he has been serving as a referee research reviewer for hundreds of national and international scientific journals, conference proceedings, as well as IS and cybersecurity textbooks. He teaches in the cybersecurity graduate programs including the MS and Ph.D. in Cybersecurity Management. In 2019 and 2020, Dr. Levy was awarded two grants totaling over $435K by the Department of Defense (DoD) via NSA.
Back in 2015, Dr. Levy was trained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) – Miami Division on various topics, and actively serves as a board member on of the FBI’s InfraGard South Florida Chapter – and serve as Education Sector Chief. He has been an active member of the US Secret Service (USSS)’s – Miami Electronic Crimes Task Force (MECTF) and Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)’s The South Florida Cybercrime Working Group (SFCWG). Dr. Levy consults federal agencies, state, and local government groups on cybersecurity topics. He is also a frequent invited keynote/guest speaker at national and international meetings, as well as regular media interviews as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on cybersecurity topics.
